Does working on your strategy seem out of reach?

We believe small businesses potentially have the most to gain from working strategically, so we have addressed the issues holding business owners back and developed a win-win solution.

What are the next steps for your business?

For plenty of small businesses, working on a strategic plan seems out of reach, usually for one of four reasons -

  1. You know you need help with your strategy but you are not really sure where to start, or what 'strategy' is supposed to do for your business
  2. You know you need help with your strategy and you've tried before but nothing changed
  3. You know you need help with your strategy but it would take time you just don't have
  4. You know you need help with your strategy but times are tough and you don't have the cash to invest right now.

All good reasons.  All reasons we can help with.

1. You know you need help with your strategy but you are not really sure where to start, or what 'strategy' is supposed to do for your business

Strategy can seem abstract and incompatible with the day-to-day workings of business, after all, not many businesses spend time talking about 'vision statements' or 'BHAGs' in the tearoom. Some business strategy consultants have made a lot of money making strategy seem complex, like a puzzle to be unlocked or an elusive concept out of the reach of the ordinary business owner. We believe strategy doesn't need to be difficult. The truth is you probably already have an idea about where you would like to take your business - and that's a great start for strategy. We can help you get your plan on paper and work out what it means for you and your team.

2. You know you need help with your strategy and you've tried before but nothing changed

A strategic plan in isolation is not worth much more than the paper it is written on.  A good strategic plan comes from information already in your business and is the first step to creating the day-to-day changes that get you closer to where you want your business to be. That's why we talk a lot about 'execution', even though we know the word is awkward and conjures images of guillotines. We are focused on giving you a realistic plan that delivers results, and the support to stick to the plan when you get back into the workplace and things get busy. Our priority for you is a plan with actionable steps and realistic milestones to keep you on track.

3. You know you need help with your strategy but it would take time you just don't have

Most business owners would love to have more control over their business, and can sometimes feel like their business is running them rather than the other way around. Just like the old saying that you have to spend money to save money, sometimes in business you have to spend time to save time. By concentrating on tangible outcomes, we reward the investment of your time with a sense of direction that allows you to eliminate distractions and concentrate on what moves you closer to your goals.  More focus, less faff.

4. You know you need help with your strategy but times are tough and you don't have the cash to invest right now

We can make a compelling argument for investment in strategic planning having a powerful positive impact on your bottom line through better processes, increased accountability, fewer distractions and a better understanding of what is important to your business' success. We've seen it happen. We are also realists and know that while business owners understand the longer term financial benefits of strategy, for some their short term financial constraints keep it out of reach. We try to bridge that gap for these business owners in two ways.

Our first option is if you can't afford the gold-standard annual strategy package right now, we will make strategy available in a format that addresses your most pressing challenge. Tell us the biggest hurdle your business is facing and we will help you establish whether it is a people, execution, accountability, marketing or cashflow issue. From there, we will work with you to put a plan in place and we feel confident it will make enough impact in your business that you will come back to us for the next steps.

Alternatively, we offer an amazing Small Business Group Workshop that brings together owners and senior managers from five local businesses in non-competing industries to share both their experiences and the costs of defining the direction for their businesses. Our next workshop runs on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 July, and due to the capped places we expect this session to fill quickly. There is more information about the workshop on our website, and if you'd like to secure your place or express your interest in future workshops you can contact our Small Business Group Workshop facilitator on 0422 130 671.
