There have been recent updates to the default superannuation fund names listed in some modern awards and it’s important employers are across what’s changed.

What’s changed?

As part of the Fair Work Commission’s Review of superannuation clauses in modern awards, the names of default superannuation funds have been updated and corrected.

In total, 125 awards have been amended to reflect these changes. While the updates are largely administrative, awards do specify default super funds for new employees, so accuracy matters.

What should employers do now?

We recommend taking a few minutes to:

  • Review the award(s) that apply to your business

  • Confirm the correct default superannuation fund is being used for new employees

  • Ensure your onboarding and payroll processes reflect the updated award wording

You can access the relevant award via the List of awards – Fair Work Ombudsman
