If you’ve been keeping an eye on LinkedIn or the job boards recently, you may have noticed Focus HR advertising a little more than usual.
That’s no accident – we’re expanding!
Over the coming weeks we’ll be announcing a number of new additions to the team, primarily in our HR and IR advisory space. These are brand new roles that have come about through a combination of growing client demand and the work we’ve been doing to reset our 2026 Strategic Plan.
During that planning process, we spent time reflecting on what it will actually take to achieve our long-term “moonshot” goal – to positively impact the working lives of more than 100,000 people by 2030.
One of the clear themes that emerged was the need to support businesses at scale with their HR and IR needs.
A big part of the work we do involves helping clients navigate difficult or time-sensitive situations – performance issues, conflict, investigations, compliance concerns and the many other challenges that arise when you’re managing people. Responding quickly and helping resolve those issues will always remain an important part of what we do.
But if we want to create a broader impact, we also need to go deeper.
Often the issue that lands on a manager’s desk, for example, an employee with repeated attendance problems, is only the symptom of something larger happening within the workplace. When we pause long enough to explore the underlying cause, we can often identify the structural, cultural or leadership factors that are contributing to the issue.
And that’s where the most powerful work happens.
Solving the immediate problem is important. But preventing the same problem from happening again is where real progress is made.
This thinking sits at the heart of our purpose: creating workplaces where people choose to be.
For us, that idea goes beyond the concept of simply being a “workplace of choice.” It ties back to our vision of rewriting the dictionary definition of a business to be:
“A team of people choosing to combine strengths in the pursuit of a common goal.”
The key word there is choice.
We believe the best businesses are those where everyone – owners, managers and employees – is making a deliberate and positive choice to be part of the team. When that happens, people tend to be more engaged, more connected to their work and more motivated to contribute.
Work becomes more meaningful. Relationships become stronger. And people feel like they are contributing to something bigger than simply turning up for a day job.
That philosophy also shapes how we are building our own team.
As Focus HR grows, we are looking for people who choose to be part of what we’re building, and who are motivated by the opportunity to help other organisations create the same kind of workplaces.
Because when businesses and their people are choosing to work together in that way, we know we are making the kind of impact we set out to achieve.
Know someone we should meet?
As Focus HR continues to grow, we’re always open to connecting with emerging HR/IR professionals who are passionate about creating better workplaces.
If someone in your network comes to mind – an early-career practitioner, recent graduate or student completing their studies and interested in gaining broad exposure to the HR/IR world – Naomi would welcome a confidential introduction on 0400 543 566.
