Have you ever thought about what really drives team performance? Or why communication sometimes feels effortless with one person and challenging with another?
The answer often lies in understanding behavioural styles. That’s where DiSC comes in.
The DiSC model is a powerful, research-backed tool that helps individuals and teams understand themselves, and each other, better. It’s about learning what makes people tick, how they prefer to work and communicate, and how we can adapt our own style to build stronger, more effective working relationships.
DiSC categorises behaviour into four primary styles:
-
D – Dominance: Our D-style colleagues are focused on results, fast-paced and direct.
What they need: Clear goals, efficiency, and the freedom to act quickly. -
i – Influence: Our i-style team members are people-oriented, enthusiastic, and optimistic.
What they need: Social interaction, recognition, and a collaborative environment. -
S – Steadiness: Our S-style co-workers are dependable, calm, and supportive.
What they need: Stability, clear expectations, and a friendly, respectful approach. -
C – Conscientiousness: Our C-style peers are detail-focused, analytical, and precise.
What they need: Accuracy, time to process information, and logical explanations.
Once you understand these styles and how your own preferences show up at work it becomes easier to communicate, lead, and collaborate effectively.
At Focus HR, DiSC isn’t just something we teach, it’s something we live. We use it everyday to frame our communication, adapt our language or approach, or understand a particular response. Having this shared understanding helps us communicate more clearly, resolve misunderstandings faster and create a workplace culture based on respect and empathy.
That’s why we’re passionate about sharing this tool with others – because we’ve seen first hand the difference it makes.
We’re excited to be hosting a Public DiSC Workshop on October 15 in Toowoomba.
Participants will receive your own personal DiSC profile, gain insight into the strengths and needs of each style, and leave with practical tools you can apply immediately in your workplace.
